Overview

The Associate Director, Specialty Pharmacy Operations will lead the operational strategy and execution of specialty pharmacy services in support of the company’s rare disease franchise. This role is responsible for building, optimizing, and overseeing efficient, compliant, and patient-centric processes that support seamless interactions between the company, specialty pharmacies, and internal/external stakeholders. The Associate Director will manage a team including Patient Services Associates and a Senior Manager, Specialty Pharmacy Operations, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and high-quality patient support delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Commercial, Compliance, Medical Affairs, Legal, and Finance to drive integrated patient support strategies.
  • Develop and implement SOPs, workflows, and operational best practices to enhance patient experience and streamline specialty pharmacy processes.
  • Management of Patient Assistance Programs (PAPs) as well as external support organizations such as CoverMyMeds, Cloudtop, and ConnectiveRx.
  • Monitor and analyze key metrics related to patient onboarding, time-to-therapy, adherence, and overall program performance; drive data-driven improvements.
  • Lead the development and delivery of regular business reviews with specialty pharmacy partners.
  • Provide coaching, leadership, and development to a team of Patient Services Associates and Specialty Pharmacy Operations Managers.
  • Partner with the Compliance team to ensure all operations remain consistent with applicable regulatory, legal, and ethical guidelines.
  • Support the launch of new products or indications by developing scalable and efficient specialty pharmacy operational strategies.
  • Serve as the point of escalation for operational or patient-related issues and ensure prompt resolution.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Business, or related field required; advanced degree (e.g., PharmD, MBA, MPH) preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry, with at least 5 years in a specialty pharmacy, patient access, in a rare disease environment.
  • Proven experience managing third-party vendors and specialty pharmacy partners.
  • Strong understanding of reimbursement processes, specialty distribution networks, and healthcare compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and operationalizing patient access strategies and navigating payer, provider, and pharmacy dynamics.
  • Excellent communication, project management, and cross-functional leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations (e.g., HIPAA, OIG guidance, 340B) and compliance standards.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record within Company required standards
  • Preferred Experience
    • Experience in patient access for rare or ultra-rare disease therapies.
    • Experience building and leading high performing teams in a fast-paced environment.
    • Familiarity with hub services, copay programs, and reimbursement support models.
    • Experience with data analytics tools and platforms (e.g., Tableau, Salesforce and other CRM systems).

  • Working Conditions: Position may require periodic evening and weekend work, as necessary to fulfill obligations. Periodic overnight travel. Up to 25% domestic travel required for meetings and conferences. Position requires vehicle travel, as necessary

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $140,000 - $230,000. Final determination of base salary offered will depend on several factors relevant to the position, including but not limited to candidate skills, experience, education, market location, and business need. This role will include eligibility for bonus and equity. The total compensation package will also include additional elements such as multiple paid time off benefits, various health insurance options, retirement benefits and more. Details about these and other offerings will be provided at the time a conditional offer of employment is made.
