Overview

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented summer intern to join our Device Development team. This position will offer hands-on experience in the development and lifecycle management of drug-device combination products, including prefilled syringes, autoinjectors, and other delivery systems. The intern will collaborate with various other functional groups such as Product Development, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Regulatory, and Supply Chain to support ongoing development activities.

Responsibilities

  • While specific projects will be assigned based on team needs, potential responsibilities include:

    • Contribute to usability engineering by refining instructions for use, designing and executing human factors studies, and interpreting data to optimize Xeris’ innovative drug formulation delivery platform.
    • Collaboration with cross-functional teams to organize and document all design iterations, test outcomes, and regulatory compliance milestones to ensure the Design History File (DHF) remains robust, complete, and audit-ready, through collaboration with to curate and manage the Design History File (DHF) for various pipeline projects.
    • Supporting design verification and validation activities including test method review and data analysis.
    • Working with Product Development to create lab fixtures and designs to improve formulation efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Education level: enrolled in an undergraduate program in an biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering or relevant scientific field.
  • Skills required
    • Strong computer skill including Microsoft Office Suite
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Skills preferred
      • Technical Writing
      • CAD software (SolidWorks)

Working Conditions

  • Position may require periodic evening and weekend work, as necessary to fulfill obligations. Periodic overnight travel.
  • Adequate vision (corrected or uncorrected) to read fine instruments such as calipers, instrument displays, etc., and perform visual inspection for defects.
  • Position may work with potentially hazardous chemicals and active pharmaceutical ingredients.
  • This role is based in Xeris’ Chicago office and requires five days per week in the office. On-site requirement may change at management’s discretion.
